A Bluffton concrete crew since 2020

I started Bluffton Concrete in 2020, after years of pouring slabs and footings on new construction, so I could work on homes people already live in. We're a concrete contractor based in Bluffton, SC, licensed and fully insured, handling 16 kinds of concrete work from driveways and patios to footings and foundations, and our small crew does the work with me on site. Satisfaction guaranteed. You can read more about us and how we work.

What to expect from our concrete crew

A concrete crew working at your house should explain what gets checked before the pour, keep you able to get in and out while they work, and say plainly when a job isn't a good fit.

  • Planned around your household

Before we start, we work out where you'll park, which door you'll use and what each day looks like, so nobody at home gets caught off guard.

  • Priced by the owner

I measure every job myself, so the person who prices your concrete is the same one on site answering for it alongside our crew.

  • Estimates you can compare

Your written estimate lists what's in the price and what isn't, so you can line it up fairly against anyone else's bid.

  • The right office first

We find out early whether the Town of Bluffton, Beaufort County or a city across the river covers your address, so the paperwork doesn't stall the job.

When you're ready, send us your project and address or call (843) 543-6810.

Concrete services in Bluffton, SC and nearby

Bluffton Concrete is a concrete contractor in Bluffton, SC, offering 16 services, from flatwork, the flat pours like driveways, patios and walks, to footings, foundations and parking lots. We pour new concrete and replace slabs that have sunk, cracked or started holding water, for homes and small commercial properties. Price moves with the size of the area, how much digging and base work the ground needs, the thickness and finish, and how close a concrete truck can get. The schedule turns on which office reviews the job and on curing, the wait while new concrete gains strength before it takes weight. The estimate I write after measuring gives you the figure for your job.

Serving Bluffton and the cities around it

Bluffton Concrete is based in Bluffton, SC, and we work in the cities around it in South Carolina and Georgia, from Hilton Head Island to Savannah. The eight cities below have their own pages, and they aren't the only places we go, so call if yours isn't listed.

How a concrete job goes with us

  1. Call or send the form

Call (843) 543-6810 or fill out the contact form with your address and what you have in mind, whether that's a driveway, a patio or a new slab. We get back to you within one business day to set a time for me to come see the property.

  2. I measure and write it up

I come out myself, measure, look at how water moves across the property and ask how you use the space, since a patio for two chairs and a pad for a work truck aren't built the same. Then you get a free written estimate, obligation-free, that spells out what's in it.

  3. We walk the forms and pour

Before the pour, I walk the forms with you, the boards that set the slab's edges and slope, so you can see where the concrete goes and which way water will run off it. Then our crew pours and finishes with me on site, and we cut control joints, shallow grooves that give the slab a straight place to crack.

  4. We go over the new slab

Once it's done, I go over what to keep off the new concrete, like cars, planters and sprinkler spray, and when it's ready for foot traffic and then for your car. Our crew cleans up before we leave, and you can call with questions while the slab cures.

Concrete questions we hear most

These are the questions homeowners ask us most before a driveway, patio or slab goes in. If yours isn't here, call and tell us about the job you have in mind.

Why do concrete driveway quotes in Bluffton vary so much?

Usually because they don't include the same work, especially the parts under and inside the slab that you can't see once it's poured. One price may dig out and pack the base and add rebar, the steel that holds the slab together if it cracks, while another rakes the dirt flat and pours. Ask each contractor how thick the slab is, what's under it and where the joints go.

Should I spend more on the base or the finish of a new concrete slab?

Put the money in the base if you have to choose, because a good-looking surface settles and cracks right along with dirt that wasn't dug out and packed. The subgrade, what the slab sits on, is hidden on day one, which is why it's the first thing people cut from a budget. A plain finish over a solid base usually outlasts a fancy one over a weak base.

How long until I can drive on a new concrete driveway?

You can walk on it well before you can park on it, and I'll give you both dates for your slab when we finish. Curing can't be rushed, and a car on the driveway too early can crack it. We'll sort out where you park in the meantime so you're not stuck.

Do I need a permit to pour a concrete driveway or patio in Bluffton, SC?

It depends on whether your address is in the Town of Bluffton or unincorporated Beaufort County and on what the job includes, so we find out before we plan anything. Selecting your property on the Town's zoning page shows which side you're on. The Town's older permit FAQ lists driveways and sidewalks no more than 30 inches above the ground next to them as generally exempt, but only Town staff can decide what your project needs, and in the county area Beaufort County Building Inspections asks for a zoning permit first. If a permit is part of the job, we walk you through the application and work with the office on our end.

What should I do to get ready for a concrete pour at my house?

Move cars, planters, grills and anything stored on or near the spot, and keep a clear path from the street for the concrete truck. Tell us about sprinkler lines, buried wires or pets ahead of time, and we'll go over parking and which door to use. If a tree has to come out for the work, the Town usually requires a tree removal permit before it's cut.

What should I do if my new concrete driveway cracks?

Call us at (843) 543-6810 and tell us what you're seeing, because a hairline crack inside a control joint is what the joint is for, while a wide crack across the open slab is worth talking through. Joints placed in the right spots and cut on time keep cracking where we chose it, though nobody can honestly promise concrete won't crack at all.

Is stamped concrete or a broom finish better for a patio?

It depends on how you use the patio, and I'll ask about that before suggesting either one. A broom finish is the light, brushed texture that gives shoes and bare feet grip, and it costs less. Stamped concrete looks like stone or brick but can be slicker when wet, which matters near a pool or on a shady patio.

Does a concrete contractor need a Town of Bluffton business license?

Yes, the Town requires a business license from any business located in Bluffton and from any outside business that comes into the Town to work. When a Town building permit is involved, the application lists each contractor's current Town business license number, and the contractor needs a South Carolina license that covers the work. It's fair to ask anyone you're comparing about both.
